Albion Farm, North Wanborough

We've stayed here before back in 2013 and it's in a bit of a rough field but it's OK. Some dog poo to look out for though. Horse in next field but quiet. On Friday, we walked along along the Basingstoke canal to the Waterwitch pub for a drink. It seemed a long way. Tree roots and uneven path in twilight meant neither of us were particularly wanting to do it the next day when we had a table booked.

Saturday saw us travelling around. We had thought we'd do a walk but, as usual, I hadn't had a very good night's sleep so didn't really want to go traipsing around the countryside (mores the pity). We headed to Hook but soon found their isn't much there and ended up in Alton. A very pleasant town where we had a cup of tea and a rather nice piece of pistachio loaf in an independent cafĂ© . I also bought a handmade Berber Tunisian cushion cover. The shop also had some lovely rugs also hand made but we weren't really in the market for a rug (but I'm going to remember the shop for future reference!). Whilst I was in the shop, Mike cancelled our table booking at the Waterwitch (thankfully) and made a reservation at The Mill House,  just a stones throw from the site.
The Mill House is lovely, and yes does boast the original mill wheel although not in use. We had a very pleasant time there and had the best table for 2, table 4. Well worth remembering. Our meals were gorgeous. Starters of squid with chilli sauce and cauliflower fritters with spicy mayonnaise and mains of steak (which was just right) and bream with crab fritter. Lovely. We even had puds, well I did!  Mike had a 'nose of cheddar' with a glass of port and I had waffles with salted caramel sauce and ice cream. And I also had a Benedictine wobbly coffee! You don't get Benedictine in many places,  so I was in my element!
Sunday saw rain and with Storm Freya expected, we packed up in the wet and journeyed home carefully in the gusty weather.
