Charity Farm CL, Minchinghampton Common

Friday 18th March 2022

We pitched up at the Charity Barn CL, Minchinhampton, just outside Stroud.  It was easy to find and access site.

The kites with The Old Lodge Pub behind them

Sitting down for our first cuppa I noticed kites flying in the near distance so I went to investigate.  The common is lovely.  Wide open spaces which means you can see for miles.  It was a fair way and I'd forgotten my stick but slowly does it and I made it over to them enjoying the space and views as I went.

This reminds me of mackerel fishing!

The kites were amazing! A hammer head shark, whale, ladybirds, wizard and more. The man I got talking to said that he and a few others go up to the common on a Friday afternoon where they are able to fly them.

He does various kite festivals which he told me are free!  He was going to a festival in the Canary Islands later in the year!  I'm glad I went to investigate.

Our Friday evening sunset was amazing

Saturday

We met up with my friend Sue in Stroud.  It was so good to see her again. We strode around the market and town then stopped for lunch.  Stroud is a very alternative town with many vegetarian and vegan eateries.  I had a lovely looking salad but unfortunately it looked better than it tasted. Never mind, the company and chat made up for it.

Mike made his way back to the caravan and left Sue and I to it and later Sue drove me back. She had never been in our van before and was gob smacked at how spacious it is.

Sunday

Sunday we had a drive around and stopped at a great view point and had a coffee whilst taking in the view.

View point at Coaley Peak overlooking the Severn & Slimbridge

We later walked over to the Old Lodge Pub near the site.  It's a lovely old pub and very busy.  It was great to see and to do something we rarely do these days since covid.

Another lovely sunset

Monday

Monday was more overcast but we didn't mind as we'd had the best of the weather when it mattered. A great weekend away!

Next time - and there will be a next time - we plan to visit Westonbirt Arboretum and Rodmorton House and Gardens.
