CLOG: Gowerton Caravan Club Site

Sunday 20th June

Car ride around the Gower peninsula. Parts of it were lovely but a lot of either tree or hedge lined roads where you couldn't see anything or houses. We stopped at and Worm Head and Rhossili which was lovely. We didn't walk down to the beach or to Worm Head as too far for us.

We also stopped off at Overton and Port Eynon Point. The car park payment machines weren't working as they couldn't get a Vodafone signal down there! A walk on the beach then shared chips. Lovely 😍.

Went through Oystermouth and then onto the Mumbles, turned around and headed back again. Very touristy and not a lot of parking that we could see. We didn't feel like stopping.

Heading back, we had to navigate a steep and very long hill so that put us off trying our bikes on that route.

That evening, we played The Game of Great Britain which is based on the old British Rail network and you have 6 cards which destinations that you have to visit by throwing a dice. Then you have to lay the card for that destination and read out the description of it. When you've laid all your cards, you have to get back to London. You can get one move from from winning but still lose. It's a really good game. We adapted it this time by having to read the card out but in the regional accent. Mike's Welsh accent sounded like he was from Pakistan! Mike sounded like Muttley from the Wacky Races when he was listening to me doing my Scarborough accent!

Monday

Cycle ride along cycle route around Wetlands to Llanelli. Awkward looking at the trail on a phone. We went off the trail unbeknownst to us and used the roads. We ended up in the shopping outlet area and were well confused. So we bought a meal deal from Tesco and sat down for a while. Poor Mike was suffering from saddle soreness - and we still had to get back! We eventually followed a road then after a car nearly hit Mike thinking he was turning left (he didn't give any indication of that at all) we picked up a cycle trail which headed back onto the Millennium Coastal Path. Once there we knew which way to go and eventually got back.

Tues 22nd June

Had trip over to Haverfordwest and a stop at Broad Haven. Lots of reminiscing, as I went there as a family in my childhood. I remember playing Jockery with my Dad on the huge expanse of sand there. Saw a group of lads playing a game with a small round net into which they bounced a ball then tried to hit it back to bounce again. That was called Stick Ball (?).

I had to have a paddle in the water. It was lovely.

The last time that Claire was sat there -
at Broad Haven, drying her feet, was 50 years ago!

Wed 23rd June

National Botanical Centre, Carmarthen. Largest single span greenhouse in the world.

Thurs 24th June

Tried to find the quirky shops in Llanelli but couldn't find them. Maybe they have closed due to Covid?

Took a trip across to the top of the Rhondda Valley and travelled down there. Lovely to see the scenery from the top of the valleys but not so good travelling through the lengthy villages.

We saw a car valeting place called Rhondda Valet on the way, which made us chuckle.

Fri 25th June

Took awning down in morning as rain forecast later.

Went for bike ride on my own (Mike's not recovered enough) along the west coast path but not as far as Llanelli but still did 20.8 km. Not bad and mostly without the battery! Took a side track which was more interesting than the actual track. Saw lots of birds.
