Setthorns, New Forest.

A New Year's stay with friends Carol and John.

Don't know why I took this photo

Arrived to a large site that was in a large forest so it didn't really feel as if you were on top of each other.  There were a lot of vans and mobile homes being stored which allowed the owners to visit whenever they liked.  A few quite unkempt though.

The New Forest is lovely but the weather was quite drab every day. It felt quite damp where we were both inside and outside the van but it didn't stop us getting our and about.

There is an old railway line that runs through the middle of the campsite and is now a walk with ability to walk through the forest and moorland too. It's so good getting out in the wild. Also many cycle routes. We will have to revisit with our bikes at some point.

Wednesday 29th

Visit to Lymington with just a walk around the town. Carol and John went into Sway but quite a small village.

Friday 30th

Carol had a 'witches treasure hunt' around Burley which was great!  It gets you walking around parts of the village you wouldn't normally see.  A drive down Rhinefield Ornamental Drive on the way back which was good although hard to see why it is 'ornamental'.  There were so many fallen trees.

Saturday 31st

New years Eve was good although a little fraught. Firstly, Mike dripped some red wine sauce for the venison wellington on the carpet.  Then I dropped a cocktail shaker full of the makings for a Pornstar Martini, complete with passion fruit, and yes the seeds, all over the floor. The seeds are really difficult to pick out of the carpet! Luckily we had some carpet cleaner and both disasters were completely obliterated 😊. (Mike found some seeds a month later on the overhead cupboards)

Yes, we did have a few sherberts!

There are no fences around the site so you get animals around sometimes. We only saw horses and of course many squirrels.

It's a very quiet site (not sure about during the summer) and an enjoyable stay, if a little damp feeling (I didn't feel like that but I did wear my wellies most of the time outside).
